ACFID Humanitarian Conference - Resilience in Africa - March 17-18 2008
The ACFID Humanitarian Reference Group invites the development and humanitarian sector community, government representatives, academics and students to attend the 2008 Humanitarian Forum on Resiliency in Africa. The forum, held in Melbourne, will give participants an understanding of what makes a resilient community in Africa (recognising there is no one framework) and explore best practice models within some of these communities.

International Day for Mine Awareness - 4 April 2008
4 April was declared International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action by the UN in 2006 to raise awareness about landmines and to continue the progress towards their eradication. Events are held around the world to spread information about the dangers of landmines and the importance of demining activity.

World Red Cross Red Crescent Day
8th May is World Red Cross Red Crescent Day -- our annual celebration of the birthday of the founder of the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, Henry Dunant (1828-1910). Henry was the joint recipient of the first Nobel Prize for Peace in 1901 for his visionary decision to establish the International Committee of the Red Cross in 1863, following his experience of the aftermath of the Battle of Solferino in 1859.

Refugee Week, 15-21 June
Around the world each year, conflict and persecution forces thousands of people to flee their homelands and seek refuge elsewhere. Red Cross provides support for refugees, asylum seekers, immigration detainees and other vulnerable people in the immigration system through programs that range from health and welfare support to restoring family links where loss of contact was caused by war and disaster.

Katherine Canoe Marathon
Uniquely the only Canoe race in the Northern Territory, the Katherine Canoe Marathon is a one day event and covers approximately a 47km long course and a 20 km short course, with an average paddling time of 9 hours. It's held on the Queen's Birthday long weekend of June 8.

Missing Person's Week
3-9 August is National Missing Persons Week. This year, the International Tracing Service of Australian Red Cross is joining non-government tracing organisations, community groups associated with families and friends of missing people and police services around Australia to raise awareness of people who have lost contact with family friends and loved ones.

World First Aid Day is about celebrating ordinary people and volunteers who mobilise to provide that initial help and make the difference, on a day-to-day basis and at the scene of crisis.

Women and War
The Women and War forum and photographic exhibition will be held on 22 November, 2007 in Canberra. This forum, hosted by the International Committee of the Red Cross and Australian Red Cross will look at how wars around the world and their aftermath affect women.

Unsafe water and poor sanitation have claimed more lives over the past century than any other cause, and in many developing countries they still do.

International Conference of Red Cross Red Crescent
 
'Together for Humanity' is the theme of the 30th International Conference of Red Cross Red Crescent, which will be held from 26-30 November in Geneva. The International Conference is held every four years and brings together all components of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement together with the governments of all nations signatory to the Geneva Conventions to consider and adopt resolutions on major, current humanitarian issues.

1st December is World AIDS Day - an international day of remembrance and support for those people who have lost their lives to, and for those people living with, HIV/AIDS. For almost ten years Australian Red Cross HIV/AIDS prevention and education programs in the Asia Pacific region have been breaking down barriers and helping to save lives.

Red Cross Murray Marathon (Victoria)
This year we celebrate the 40th and final Red Cross Murray Marathon.  The Red Cross Murray Marathon, one of world's longest annual canoe races,  covers a distance of 404km in five days, taking paddlers from Yarrawonga through to Swan Hill in Victoria, Australia.

Red Cross is pleased to be the beneficiary of this event which will be held at the GPO Hotel from 5.30pm. Guests will enjoy great food and drink while listening to the laid back tunes of highly regarded local Brisbane band, 'The Frets'.
